RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a record-setting final round at the Grace Shin Invitational earlier this week, Arkansas Tech junior golfer
Jaylee Castro has been named as the Great American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Wednesday.
It is the second GAC weekly award this season and the third career for Castro.
Castro earned this week's GAC Women's Golfer of the Week after she had a round to remember on Tuesday, etching her name in the record books with a seven-under (64). Her score of 64 in the final round of the Grace Shin Invitational set a new program record and GAC record for lowest single-round score.
The previous record at Tech was a 67, done seven times by five different golfers. The most-recent occurrence came in 2021 when Jacqueline Klemm had a 67 at the Central Region Preview. The previous record for a GAC golfer was a 65 by a pair of Henderson State golfers in Gracen Blount (2023) and Lily Nelson (2024).
Castro's remarkable round saw her jump up 51 spots on the individual leaderboard from yesterday and finish in a tie for 5th as she carded a one-over for the tournament. Her record-setting round featured just one blemish, with a bogey on No. 12, but was highlighted with six birdies and one eagle. Her eagle came on No. 18.
