Spigner wins individual medalist at Midwest Classic; Golden Suns finish runner-up

EDMOND, Okla. – Arkansas Tech senior golfer Ellen Spigner went wire-to-wire atop the individual leaderboard at the Midwest Classic, winning the 54-hole event by two strokes at five-under (205). As a team, the Golden Suns finished runner-up behind Central Missouri for the second-straight event.

OFFICIAL RESULTS

The individual win for Spigner is the second of her career. Last March, Spigner won the Patriot Invitational out at the Quail Golf Course in Carmel, Calif.

At the Midwest Classic over the past two days, Spigner filled her scorecard with red ink. Shooting under par in each round, Spigner totaled a tournament-leading 12 birdies and sank one of the two eagle putts made as well.

Supporting Spigner and helping the Golden Suns secure that second-consecutive runner-up finish were the remaining three scorers in Jaylee Castro, Averi Mickelson and Jessie Jane Norman. Mickelson would notch her second-straight top-10 finish as she 10th at the Midwest Classic. Mickelson would shoot 11-over (221)

Norman was next and finished tied for 23rd at 15-over (225) while Castro finished tied for 35th at 20-over (230).

The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final tournament of the fall, the Tulsa Cup. The two-day event will be hosted by Rogers State at the Forrest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. From October 27-28.
