RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – In a match between a pair of unbeaten teams in Great American Conference play on Tuesday night, the Ouachita Baptist volleyball team continued their unblemished record, beating Arkansas Tech 3-1.
For the match, Tech would have 11 more kills than the Tigers, but a 16-point difference in attack errors favored Ouachita.
In the first set, Ouachita jumped out to an early advantage and were up 14-10 before the Golden Suns scored six of the next seven points to take their first lead at 16-15. The Tigers scored the next two points to flip the score in their favor, but a 4-0 burst by Tech gave the Golden Suns their largest lead of the set to that point, 20-17.
Ouachita was then able to go on a surge themselves and scored seven of the next eight points in the set to suddenly have set-point, 24-21. The Tigers would eventually close out the set, 25-22.
Set two saw the Golden Suns be the ones that captured the early lead, and at one point, the advantage was as high as six points, 8-2. The Tigers would battle back into the set and tied it at 13-all. The Golden Suns would not relinquish the lead at that point and were the first to 20.
Once they got to 20 points, however, Ouachita scored six of the next seven points in the set to grab their first lead of the set, 23-21. The only thing that broke the surge by the Tigers was an attack error that made it 23-22, but Ouachita was able to score the next two points to secure the set.
The third set was closely played throughout the early goings before the Golden Suns snapped an 11-all tie by scoring five of six points to go up 16-12. Tech was once again the first to 20 points in the set, but this time, they were able to put the set away, winning 25-18, forcing a fourth set.
Unfortunately, there was not much that Ouachita was unable to do offensively in the fourth set as they did not commit an attack error while putting down 15 kills en route to a 25-16 win. The Golden Suns were able to register 15 kills themselves in the set, but were hindered by seven attack errors.
Offensively, the Golden Suns has three players with double-digit kills and were led by recently-named GAC Offensive Player of the Week,
Savannah Meyer and her 18 kills.
Henley Hooks was next with 12 kills while
Millie Allgood rounded out double-digit kills with 11. Meyer and Allgood also notched double-doubles with 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
Samantha Wojtowicz was the leader in the digs with 21.
The Golden Suns will now prepare to take to the road in a couple of days and play at Harding on Thursday night. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
