BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Arkansas Tech men's golf team concluded play at the Oldfield Classic on Tuesday afternoon and are coming home with some hardware.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
As a team, the Wonder Boys shot even-par on Tuesday to climb to second place for a runner-up trophy. Individually, freshman
Tobey Kim put the finishing touches on his first out-right medalist title as he shot four-under (68) on Tuesday to end his tournament at nine-under (207). It is the second time this season that Kim has finished atop the leaderboard, doing so at the Battle for the Belt back in the fall, but Kim lost out on medalist honors in a playoff.
The out-right victory for Kim adds to the list of all-time wins for a Wonder Boy golfer with the most-recent being a
Jackson Cole win at the Hillcat Classic last March. In shooting nine-under (207), Kim tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
In addition to Kim's performance, the Wonder Boys got great closing scores from
Jacob Peetoom and
Landon Lawson. Both would jump 16 places on the individual leaderboard on Tuesday. Peetoom did shot with a one-under (71), while Lawson shot even-par (72).
Overall, Peetoom would finish tie for 21
st overall at five-over.
Roby Cooper, who had the fourth counting score on Tuesday at five-over, finished nine-over for the tournament and placed in a tie for 33
rd. Lawson's surge jumped him up to a tie for 42
nd and
Shaun Jones rounded out competition for the Wonder Boys with a tie for 53
rd place finish.
The Wonder Boys will be back in action next week as they will take part in the Shadow Valley Invitational. The two-day event is being held at the Shadow Valley Golf Club in Rogers, Arkansas and is hosted by Arkansas-Fort Smith.
