NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team took on nationally-ranked No. 19 Mississippi College at the Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Suns would be beat by MC, 5-0.
In doubles play, Mississippi College came away with the point, but all three matches were highly-competitive. No. 2 doubles finished first and the doubles pairing of
Nabilah Dunn and
Natalya Montoya lost to MC's Ricio Martinez and Katharina Weber, 6-3. Top-flight doubles was next to finish and
Elis Gergel and
Melanie Griffiths fell to Ana Julissa De Mata Rodriguez and Emma Roberts, 6-4. Flight three doubles went to a tiebreaker where MC's Alizee Ripolles and Ann Cabot Stockett emerged victorious, 7-6(4).
In singles, Montoya played at line one and took on No. 41-ranked Emma Roberts. Roberts would beat Montoya, 6-2, 6-0. Line three singles was next to complete, but did so due to injury retirement by Tech's
Elis Gergel. Gergel was up a set prior to her retirement.
The clinching fourth point came at No. 6 singles where
Melanie Griffiths fell to Anna Hudson, 6-2, 6-0.
Only one more singles match was completed as MC's Alizee Ripolles beat
Meaghan Butler, 6-2, 6-2.
Monica Balau and
Maria Krites' singles matches went unfinished with each down a set.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a neutral site match against Angelo State on Saturday, February 22. The match is slated to start at 10 a.m. and be played at Henderson State in Arkadelphia.
