ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team took on their second nationally-ranked opponent in as many matches as they played No. 15-ranked Angelo State on Saturday morning.
In the neutral site match played on Henderson State's courts, the Golden Suns lost to Angelo State, 4-0.
After picking up the doubles point, Angelo State went on to face some resistance in the singles play but were able to win three of the four matches that started to clinch the match and bring it to its conclusion.
Despite the shutout, the Golden Suns were competitive in all four singles matches and were on the brink of securing a win at No. 3 before it was left unfinished once Angelo State clinched the match. Prior to that,
Elis Gergel, who was playing at No. 3 singles, was up 5-2 in the third set after split sets. She would win the first set, 6-0 and then fall in the second set, 1-6.
The Golden Suns will now prepare to make their home debut this coming Tuesday afternoon as they will host Arkansas-Fort Smith. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
