RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a record-setting final round at the Grace Shin Invitational earlier this week, Arkansas Tech junior golfer
Jaylee Castro has been named as the Great American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Wednesday.
It is the first GAC weekly award this season and the third career for Spigner.
Spigner earned this week's GAC Women's Golfer of the Week as she went wire-to-wire atop the individual leaderboard at the Midwest Classic, winning the 54-hole event by two strokes at five-under (205).
The 205 score for the 54-hole event set a program-record for lowest 54-hole score, besting the previous mark of 206 by great Rebecka Surtevall in 2014.
At the Midwest Classic, Spigner filled her scorecard with red ink. Shooting under par in each round, Spigner totaled a tournament-leading 12 birdies and sank one of the two eagle putts made as well.
The individual win for Spigner is the second of her career. Last March, Spigner won the Patriot Invitational out at the Quail Golf Course in Carmel, Calif.
