BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech men's golf team finished the opening round of the 2024 Great American Conference Men's Golf Championship on Sunday and sit in fourth place after a 16-over (304).
ROUND ONE RESULTS
The Wonder Boys will enter the second round on Monday five strokes back of third-place Harding and six shots back of second-place Southern Arkansas.
Pacing the team in Sunday's opening round was
Jackson Cole. Named First Team All-GAC the night prior, Cole shot a two-over (74) on Sunday and is currently tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard.
Starting on Hole 10, Cole was two-over through his first four holes and then dropped to three-over after his eighth hole. Before making the turn to the front-nine, however, Cole birdied No. 18 to drop back to two-over. On the front-nine, Cole went on a par streak as he made par on his first seven holes on the front-nine before making birdie on No. 8 to drop to one-over.
A bogey on his final hole, however, put Cole back to two-over.
Two shots back of Cole were
Roby Cooper and
Shaun Jones as both shot four-over (76). They both sit in a tie for 13
th heading into round two on Monday. Another two strokes back of Cooper and Jones were
Oscar Darlington and
Landon Lawson.
Those two rounded out team scoring for the Wonder Boys with matching scores of six-over (78).
Monday's second round will see the Wonder Boys begin to tee off from Hole No. 1 starting at 8:55 a.m. For that round, Tech will be grouped with Southwestern Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene.
