Jackson Cole and Wonder Boys finish MSSU Fall Invitational in the red

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Impressive low scores all around for the teams in the top half of the field at the MSSU Fall Invitational were the highlight of the two-day event with 11 teams finishing in the red.

FINAL RESULTS

The Arkansas Tech men's golf team were among those 11 that collectively shot under par at the MSSU Fall Invitational, which was held at the Shangri La Country Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma. For the tournament, the Wonder Boys went three-under (861) to place them in a tie for ninth place.

Leading the way for the Wonder Boys was graduate senior Jackson Cole. The Fayetteville native shot six-under for the tournament and finished in a tie for 10th. Cole's tournament got off to a great start on Monday with a two-under (70) opening round. In that round, Cole had five birdies.

Round two was played shortly after round one, but due to a fog delay at the outset of the tournament, the second round was not finished on Monday and had to be completed on Tuesday. Upon completion of the second round, Cole dropped his score even more into the red with a four-under (68). That round was highlighted by five birdies and an eagle.

Cole's final round featured two birdies and an eagle, but a pair of bogeys and a double bogey brought his score to even-par (72).

Cole was not the only Wonder Boy to have rounds under par throughout the tournament. In the first round, freshman Luke Hanson had a one-under (71). In the second round, Oscar Darlington and Shaun Jones both shot two-under (70) and in the final round, freshman Jacob Peetoom shot three-under (69).

Peetoom's big final round put a nice cap on his first collegiate tournament within the lineup. The Rogers native would improve his score in each round after initially shooting two-over (74) in round one. He would finish the tournament as the second scoring Wonder Boy and tied for 36th.

As a team, the best round for the Wonder Boys came in the second round as they shot seven-under (281).

The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their next tournament, the Battle for the Belt. Hosted once more by Henderson State, the Battle for the Belt will take place October 2-3 from the Hot Springs Country Club.
