MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech men's golf team competed in their first tournament of the 2023-24 season over the past two days as they took part in the 25
th-annual NSU Golf Classic. The Wonder Boys would post consistent team scores throughout the three rounds and ended up finishing 14
th among the 17-team field.
FINAL RESULTS
On Monday, the Wonder Boys played the first 36 holes of the tournament and carded team scores of 299 and 296. After that first day of competition, Tech was in 13
th place. On Tuesday, the final round was played and as a team, the Wonder Boys shot a 297, which dropped them one place on the team leaderboard.
Their three-round stroke total of 892 was just four strokes back of 10
th place, Southeastern Oklahoma, who finished with an 888 team total.
In terms of their lineup, the Wonder Boys were led after day one by true freshman
Luke Hanson. The Maumelle native shot even-par 71 in round one and four-over (75) in the second round to put himself tied for 24
th. On Tuesday, Hanson shot a five-over (76) and ended up finishing in a tie for 41
st individually.
Overall, the Wonder Boys were led by graduate senior
Jackson Cole. After shooting one-under (70) in the opening round, Cole struggled some in the second round and shot six-over (77), placing him in a tie for 32
nd individually. Cole would bounce back on Tuesday and shot even-par (71) to vault himself up the leaderboard and place in a tie for 22
nd.
On Tuesday, the Wonder Boys' second-lowest score was a two-over (73) from
Viktor Olund. Both
Shaun Jones and
Roby Cooper shot six-over (77) to round out team scoring for Tech in the final round.
Another true freshman made his debut for Tech this week as
Jacob Peetoom played as an individual. The Rogers native would hold his own and placed in a tie for 49
th with scores of 77-71-76.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their next event of the season, the MSSU Fall Invitational, which will be held at the Shangri La Country Club in Monkey Island, Okla.
