CABOT, Ark. – Playing in their final tune-up ahead of the 2023 Great American Conference Championship Tournament, the Arkansas Tech men's golf team had a solid day of action on Monday at the Natural State Classic and sit in fourth place through 36 holes.
DAY ONE RESULTS
Playing at the Par-72, 7,392-yard Cypress Creek Golf Club in Cabot, the Wonder Boys shot a two-round team total of 601. Heading into the final round on Tuesday, they are one shot back of third place Southern Arkansas and five back of second place Harding.
In their opening round, the Wonder Boys shot a 306 (+18) and were fifth among the 11-team field.
Shaun Jones led the team in the opening round with an even-par (72).
Viktor Olund and
Landon Lawson joined Jones in shooting in the 70s with Olund carding a three-over (75) and Lawson a seven-over (79).
All three bettered their scores in the second round to help fuel Tech's nine-stroke improvement in round two (295; +7) as they climbed a rung on the team leaderboard.
Once more leading the Wonder Boys in scoring was Jones as he carded a two-under (70) to give him a two-round score of 142 (-2), which places him atop the individual leaderboard.
Olund was two shots better in his second round and shot a one-over (73). Two shots off that and making a six-stroke improvement was
Oscar Darlington as he shot three-over (75). Lawson's five-over (77) was the final counter for Tech in round two.
