SEARCY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team dropped their penultimate road match of the season on Thursday night as they lost to Harding by a score of 3-1.
The Golden Suns would start out the opening set up 3-0 and last led 7-6 before Harding seized control of by scoring 14 of the next 19 points. Harding would go on to win the set 25-17.
Set two saw the Golden Suns bounce back and find their footing. Trailing by a point at 5-4, the Golden Suns scored six-straight points to jump out by five points. The Bisons were able to close within three points of Tech's lead on three different occasions, but a 4-0 run by the Golden Suns pushed their lead out to seven points and provided enough of a cushion to cruise to a 25-19 win.
The third set was competitive throughout the early and middle stages, but with Harding trailing by a point, 16-15, the Bisons would swing the momentum of the set in their favor and scored eight of the next nine points to surge ahead 23-17. Harding was then able to close out the set, 25-19.
The momentum of the end of the third set carried over in a big way for Harding in the fourth set as they quickly raced out to an 8-1 lead. Shortly thereafter, the lead swelled to double-digits for Harding allowing them to ease to an eventual 25-12 win in the set and subsequent match victory, 3-1.
The Golden Suns were led offensively by
Kaitlyn Neal and
Savannah Meyer as both had double-digit kills. Neal led with 13 while Meyer had 10.
Gracie Palmer helped facilitate the offense and dished out 20 of the team's 41 assists.
Defensively, Neal was second on the team in the set in digs with 14 as she notched a double-double.
Jamie Myrick led the way with 16 while
Kenzie Garrett chipped in 10.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final road match of the season as they will play on the road at Arkansas-Monticello on Monday, November 6. First-serve from Monticello is scheduled for 6 p.m.
