Golden Suns secure No. 2-seed in GAC Tournament with 7-0 sweep of Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team picked up a clean sweep in their regular season finale as they beat Henderson State by a score of 7-0 on the road Friday afternoon.
 
The win secures the Golden Suns (8-6, 4-1 GAC) as the No. 2-seed in the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament, which will be held in Bentonville starting Friday, April 29. As the No. 2 seed, the Golden Suns also earn a coveted opening round bye and will first hit the court on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. against the winner of the Southeastern Oklahoma and Ouachita match that pits No. 3 vs. No. 6. That match will take place on Friday.
 
In their match against Henderson State, the Golden Suns faced minimal resistance in picking up the 7-0 sweep.
 
In doubles action, the Golden Suns quickly secured the point with matching 6-1 wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles. Even with the point clinched, the remainder of doubles was played out and the top-flight duo of Daniela Baez and Lea Grinberg bested the top doubles pairing of the Reddies (5-10, 1-4 GAC) of Mulan Kamoe and Georjemah Row.
 
The momentum from doubles play carried over to singles as all but the final match was decided in straight sets.
 
Madalena Amil secured the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Aastha Dargude was not far behind with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2.
 
The match was officially clinched at No. 3 singles as Baez win 6-2, 6-2, but the remaining matches would play out.
 
Maria Krite won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5 followed by Meaghan Butler winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
 
The final singles match was a good one at the top flight between Grinberg and Kamoe.
 
Splitting the sets, Grinberg remained unbeaten in conference play as she won the third-set tie-breaker 10-7.
