WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Arkansas Tech is in 10th place after two out of three rounds at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship. The Golden Suns improved to 310 (+18) in the second round for a total of 631 (+47).Â
Â
Yesterday, the Golden Suns finished the day in 14th place with a Round 1 card of 321 (+29). The Golden Suns must finish in the top eight tomorrow to advance to head-to-head play. The Suns trail current eighth-place team Limestone by eight strokes.
Â
The current leader is the University of Indianapolis, whose seven-under total today gave them a five-stroke lead over second-place Barry. California State San Marcos, who led after Day 1, now trails Indianapolis by eight strokes and is in third.Â
Â
Freshman
Jacqueline Klemm moved to the head of the Tech card today thanks to her under-par round total of 72. She currently has a total of 151 (+5) and is in a six-way tie for 10th place. Following her is
Pia Nunbhakdi (156, +10, T29).
Â
Peerada Piddon also improved significantly from her first round, carding a total that was 12 strokes lower than her Round 1 card. Her current card is 162 (+16). Joining her in a four-way tie for 52nd place is
Sydney Staton, who matched her Day 1 card of 81 in today's stroke play.Â
Â
The other Great American Conference team competing in the national championship, Southwestern Oklahoma State, is tied for fifth place with a current total of 622 (+38).
Â
The championship features 16 teams and 16 individuals from four different regions, totaling 72 participants. Instead of the traditional 72-holes of stroke play, all participants will play 54-holes of stroke play. The tournament will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. As in the past, only the top four individual scores will count toward a team's total.
Â
The final round of normal play will take place tomorrow. The quarters and semis will be played on Friday, with the remaining two teams competing for the team national championship Saturday. Individual competition also concludes tomorrow.
