WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Arkansas Tech sits in 14th place after one round at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship. The Golden Suns carded a total of 321 (+29). 
 
The current leader is California State San Marcos, ranked third in the nation. Cal State carded a Round 1 total of 299 (+7) and leads No. 1 Barry by five strokes. Arkansas Tech was ranked No. 9 coming into the championship.
 
Pia Nunbhakdi landed a spot in the top 10 after Day 1, carding a 74 (+1). She sits in a five-way tie for ninth place. 
 
Jacqueline Klemm came next with her 40th-place card of 79 (+6). Sydney Staton followed with her card of 81 (+8, T57).
 
Peerada Piddon (87, +14, T86) rounded out the Tech card. 
 
For the first time since the first Division II women's golf championship in 2000, the format of the tournament has been altered. The championships feature 16 teams and 16 individuals from four different regions, totaling 72 participants. Instead of the traditional 72-holes of stroke play, all participants will play 54-holes of stroke play, with the top eight advancing to the medal/match-play quarterfinals. The tournament will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. As in the past, only the top four individual scores will count toward a team's total.
 
Round two commences tomorrow and the final round play will take place on Thursday. The quarters and semis will be played on Friday, with the remaining two teams competing for the team national championship Saturday. The individual medal will be handed out on Thursday at the conclusion of stroke play.
