HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Peerada Piddon earned a first place finish after shooting the second lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history, helping the Arkansas Tech women's golf team secure its fourth straight GAC Championship at the Hot Springs Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Tech shot a 307 in the third and final round of the GAC Championships, which was tied for the best score of the day. The Golden Suns finished the tournament with a score of 905, 18-strokes ahead of Southwestern Oklahoma State who claimed second place.
Piddon shot the lowest round of the tournament for the third consecutive day, carding a two under-par 70 to finish the tournament with a 213, nine-strokes ahead on the next best-score, which was held by teammate
Pia Nunbhakdi. Nunbhakdi carded her best round of the season in the final 18-holes of the GAC Championships with an even-par 72 and finished the tournament in a tie for second with a score of 222. Both Piddon and Nunbhakdi earned All-GAC Tournament team accolades as they finished in the top five. Nunbhakdi has now been named to the All-GAC Tournament team in three straight years.
Holly Standing was the third Golden Sun to earn a top-10 finish as she completed the GAC Championships with a score of 235, which earned her a tie for eighth place.
Tech was the only team to have three players finish in the top eight and all five players finish in the top 20, as
Allie Weiner's finished the tournament with a combined score of 239, which finished in a tie for 17
th while
Avery Struck's score of 240 earned her a tie for 20
th.
With the win, the Golden Suns will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships being played at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course in St. Charles, Mo. from May 7-9.
