Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Bryan Heward,
Patrick Castleberry,
Cole Fergus, and
John Lassiter all had multi-hit games, but the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team (27-19) was unable to outslug Drury (19-20-1), falling 8-7 in Tech's final non-conference game of the regular season.
It was the Panthers getting on the board first, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before
Cole Fergus' solo homer in the top of the second put the Wonder Boys on the board.
A squeeze bunt in the bottom of the second extended Drury's lead to 3-1 before an RBI grounder by
Kris Ayers and a sacrifice fly by Castleberry in the top of the third knotted the game at 3-3.
Drury scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to pull ahead 6-3, but an RBI double by Castleberry in the fifth plated Heward to pull Tech to within 6-4. The Panthers got the run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to pull ahead 7-4.
An RBI grounder by
Connor Brady in the sixth pulled Tech to within 7-5, and then in the seventh, the Wonder Boys knotted the contest after RBI singles by
Caleb McKinnon and Brady.
However, an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Panthers the lead, and Drury's Gage Jacobs was able to retire all six Wonder Boys he saw in the eighth and ninth to lock down the save.
Josh Ryan took the loss in relief after tossing 4.1 innings and scattering seven hits and allowing two runs, walking none and fanning four.
The Wonder Boys return to Tech Field on Friday and Saturday to face Harding.
