HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Four Arkansas Tech Golden Suns golfers finished in the top five, while the Golden Suns broke their own two-day-old Great American Conference women's golf championship single-round record with a final-round 294, as Arkansas Tech claimed a 50-stroke victory at the 2015 GAC Women's Golf championships on Tuesday.
The Golden Suns finished 50 strokes ahead of second-place Henderson State, and 59 strokes ahead of third-place Southwestern Oklahoma. Only the teams in second, third, and fourth places were within 100 strokes of the Golden Suns.
Rebecka Surtevall came on strong on the final day of competition, firing a final-round 69 (-3) to claim sole possession of second place, five strokes behind individual medalist Brittany Marquez of Harding.
Megan Jeffery's final-round 74 (+2) gave her sole possession of third place, while
Caroline Fredensborg's 76 (+4) allowed her to claim fourth place.
Taylor Kline shot her third consecutive 75 (+3) and finished in a tie for fifth place with Southwestern Oklahoma's Ana-Laura Gomez.
Jessica Sachs fired a final-round 79(+7) to finish in a tie for 17
th place in the 46-player field.
The conference title is the second in school history. The Golden Suns last captured a conference tournament title in 2011, Arkansas Tech's final year in the Gulf South Conference.
The Golden Suns earn the GAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, and will advance to compete in the Central Super Regional May 4-6 in Bartlesville, Okla.
