RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Seeking a second-straight 3-0 start to the season, the Arkansas Tech football team hosted Ouachita Baptist for Family 2026. Despite a packed Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium, Tech was unable to generate much against the Tigers as Ouachita won the game, 34-17.
The Tigers controlled much of the action with a time of possession that leaked just over 37 minutes. Ouachita. That limited the Wonder Boys' offensive possession time to just over 22 minutes. The Wonder Boys also found themselves on the lower side of total offense (447-to-318).
With Ouachita controlling the action, the Tigers got out to a 13-0 first-half lead and almost held the Wonder Boys scoreless in the first half. Tech would break up that shutout bid with eight seconds left in the opening half on a 42-yard field goal from
Fernando Ventura.
The Tigers continue to hold the Wonder Boys offense back and scored a pair of touchdowns to push the lead out to 27-3 with 11:53 to play in the game.
After the second of those Ouachita touchdowns, the Wonder Boys put together a 9-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with a 7-yard touchdown reception by
Scout Brazeal from
Carter Hensley. Unfortunately, the momentum gained on that score evaporated quickly as the Tigers returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.
The Wonder Boys capped scoring in the game with 2:23 left as
Lathan Boone connected from a yard out with
John Townsend for a touchdown. That play was the culmination of an 8-play, 78-yard drive and was the first passing TD as a Wonder Boy for Boone and the first receiving TD for Townsend in his collegiate career.
Tech will now look to bounce back on the road for their next game at Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, September 26. Kick-off from UAM is scheduled for 6 p.m.
