ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team opened up their three-game series on the road at Henderson State on Thursday night and came out on the downside of a pitcher's duel, losing 3-0.
After the Wonder Boys were held off the scoreboard in the first inning despite a pair of hits, the Reddies mounted a two-out rally in the bottom half and scored a pair of runs on a bases loaded single. The Wonder Boys would again get a pair of runners on in the second inning, but were stranded on base.
That 2-0 score would hold until the eighth inning when the Reddies got a run of insurance on a leadoff home run.
The Wonder Boys would threaten again in the top of the ninth as the first two batters reached thanks to a hit-by-pitch and an error by the Henderson pitcher, Ethan Roark, who was attempting to pitch a complete game.
With the tying run at the plate and no outs in the top of the ninth, Roark would get the next batters out on strikeouts to close out the game.
Despite the struggles of the offense, the Wonder Boys received strong pitching performances from starter
Cole Dickson and reliever
Ashton Greenlee. The two would combine for 15 strikeouts. Dickson pitched 5.0 innings and had a career-high nine strikeouts. Greenlee handled the final 3.0 innings and registered six strikeouts.
The Wonder Boys will look to bounce back on Friday as they will play a doubleheader against Henderson State starting at 1 p.m.
