Jacobitz’s shutout highlights doubleheader split at Henderson

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team split their doubleheader on Friday at Henderson State behind a complete game shutout from Creighton Jacobitz in game one. Tech would drop the second game to split the DH and drop the series to Henderson.

GAME ONE
The Wonder Boys got the only run of support Jacobitz would end up needing in the top of the first as Kirby Jenkins drove in Tommy Caya from third on a groundout to second base.

In the top of third, the Wonder Boys scored a pair of runs to go up 3-0. The first run scored on an errant throw by the Reddies' catcher on a double steal attempt by Drew Vega and Caya. Vega would score on the error. In the next at-bat, Cole Dawson singled home Caya.

Two innings later, the Wonder Boys added three runs thanks to RBIs from Vega, Caya and Derek Rockett. Caya added a second RBI an inning later on a double to left field. The eighth and final run for the Wonder Boys scored in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Rockett.

All of that run support allowed Jacobitz to cruise comfortably in his start. The junior lefty scattered eight hits, all singles, walked one and struck out a season-high nine batters as he logged his first shutout as a Wonder Boy.

GAME TWO
The second game was controlled throughout by Henderson. The Reddies scored the first run of the game in the second, but the Wonder Boys matched that run with one in the third. That ended up being the only run the Wonder Boys would be able to score.

Henderson broke the 1-all tie in the bottom of the third with three runs. They added seven in the fourth and three more in the fifth to account for their 14 runs in the game.

UP NEXT
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a midweek game at home against Christian Brothers this coming Tuesday afternoon.
