DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas tech baseball team split their road doubleheader at Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon, winning the opening game, 4-1 and then narrowly losing the second game, 3-2. The split resulted in an overall series loss for the Wonder Boys, their first conference one of the year.
GAME ONE
The opening game turned out to be a masterful performance on the mound by
Creighton Jacobitz. He would pitch 8.0 innings and took a one-hit shutout into the ninth inning before surrendering a solo home run to end his outing. In his time on the mound, Jacobitz allowed just three other baserunners with a pair of hit-by-pitches and a single. He would strikeout three.
The offensive support of Jacobitz started in the top of the fourth when
Kirby Jenkins connected on a two-run home run, scoring
Tyler Sardelli, who led the inning off with a walk. The Wonder Boys then went on to add single runs of insurance in the sixth and seventh innings.
The tally in the sixth scored on a RBI single through the right side by
Weston Johnston while the run in the seventh saw Sardelli single through the same hole.
GAME TWO
The second game saw Southeastern do all of their offensive damage in the first inning of the seven-inning contest as they hit a three-run home run with two outs.
The Wonder Boys were able to respond in their next trip to the plate and scored twice on two hits.
Weston Johnston led the inning off with a double down the right field line.
Levi Martin then drove him home on a single up the middle.
Brendyn Bard and
Luke Caussey followed with walks to load the bases with no outs.
After the first out was recorded on a line drive to short,
Cole Dawson hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Martin for the second run.
That ended up being the last scoring in the game. Tech would get the potential game-tying run on base in the fourth and fifth innings, but were retired in order in the final two frames.
UP NEXT
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a four-game stretch of home games this coming week. First up is a midweek game against former conference rival, Delta State on Tuesday afternoon. First-pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from Baswell Field.
