RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team opened a four-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon and took on former conference rival, Delta State in a midweek game, but came out on the downside of a 6-1 final.
In the game, the Wonder Boys fell victim to timely hitting by the Statesmen as all six of the runs scored by Delta came with two outs. The first of those plated a pair in the top of the second inning and came off the heels of an inning-ending double play that Tech grounded into a half inning earlier.
DSU then tacked on a single run in the fourth before striking for three runs in the fifth to push the score to 6-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Wonder Boys pushed across their lone run of the game on a RBI double to left-centerfield from
Tyler Sardelli.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their home weekend series against East Central. The three-game slate is scheduled to start with a single game at 6 p.m. on Friday.
