Wonder Boys take No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist to overtime; narrowly fall in extra period

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team nearly pulled off an upset at home against No. 10-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon inside Tucker Coliseum but ultimately lost by a score of 66-64 in overtime.

In a game of ups and downs, the Wonder Boys held a 10-point lead early in the second half, but with just under three minutes left on the clock, they faced a 10-point deficit, 58-48. Over the final 2:21 of regulation, however, the Wonder Boys would go on a 10-0 run to tie the game and force overtime.

Sparking that run was a three-pointer by Devin Foster. Donyae May then made a pair of free throws at the 1:53 mark and Foster made it a one-possession game with 34 seconds left on a layup. After a pair of misses at the free throw line by the Bison kept it a three-point game, the Wonder Boys had possession and with under 20 seconds left, Connor Davis drove the paint, scored and drew contact, sending him to the line with a chance to tie the game.

He was true on the attempt, and the Bison would miss their last shot of regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Both teams then traded three-pointers at the start of overtime to keep the game locked up. The Wonder Boys then broke the stalemate on a three-pointer from Foster at the 2:16 mark. Unfortunately, that would be the final scoring the Wonder Boys were able to produce as the Bison held them scoreless the rest of the way.

The Bison would go on to take the lead, 65-64 with just over a minute left in overtime. They added one more point to their total at the free throw line with under a second left to bring the game to its final of 66-64.

The Wonder Boys would have four players score in double figures and were led by Davis and his 19 points. Aiden Underdown was next with 13 followed by Jayvin Williams and his season-high 11 points. Foster rounded out double-figure scoring with 10 points.

Tech will now prepare for a third-straight home game as they will host Arkansas-Monticello on Monday, February 9. That is a makeup from the postponed game originally scheduled for January 24. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
