WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team played games two and three of their four-game road series at No. 2-ranked Central Missouri on Saturday afternoon and ultimately dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 3-0 and 5-1.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Wonder Boys would be shutout on just two hits, but their pitching kept them in the game throughout. UCM collected just six hits in the seven-inning contest and had half of those come in the decisive third inning as the Mules scored three runs in the frame.
All three runs scored with two outs as UCM had a two-RBI single through the left side followed by a RBI single in the same hole.
The best run-scoring chance for the Wonder Boys in the game came in the top of the sixth inning as
Cole Dawson and
Levi Martin drew walks in the inning. Both were moved up on a sacrifice bunt by
Derek Rockett, but the big hit wouldn't come as the Mules escaped the jam with a strikeout to end the inning.
GAME TWO
In the second game, UCM scored first with a tally in the bottom of the first. The Wonder Boys were able to tie it up with a run in the top of the third.
Matt Mitchell drew a leadoff walk. After the first out was recorded, Mitchell got to third on a wild pitch.
Tyler Sardelli then drove him in with a groundout to shortstop.
The Mules answered back with a run in the bottom half to go back up by a run, 2-1. They added another single run in the fourth to make it 3-1.
That score held until the seventh when the Mules tacked on a run. They did the same in the eighth to push the score to its eventual final of 5-1.
