LEADING OFF
The Arkansas Tech baseball team is back is on the road this weekend and will travel south to Magnolia for a three-game series at Southern Arkansas.
 
The series is scheduled to be played over the course two days with a single game on Friday night starting at 6 p.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
 
Historically, the Wonder Boys and Muleriders have met 193 times before their clash this weekend with the most-recent being a midweek game at Tech on February 17. SAU holds a 118-75 lead in the series.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys enters the weekend series 8-8 overall and 5-1 in the GAC. They have won four-straight games with a weekend sweep at Northwestern Oklahoma last weekend and a 13-8 win at home in a midweek game against Harding.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys are hitting .250 as a team (125-for-501) with 90 runs scored, 20 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. Kirby Jenkins currently leads the team in batting average at .368 (21-for-57). Jenkins has also been the power threat for the Wonder Boys as he leads the team with a .737 slugging percentage thanks to five doubles, two triples and four home runs. Jenkins also  leads the team in RBIs with 24 and in runs scored with 15.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.17 and have struck out 90 batters in 132.2 innings of work.
 
Cole Dickson, Creighton Jacobitz and Daniel Hutchison all made starts over Tech's most-recent weekend at Northwestern Oklahoma and figure to be among the rotation this weekend against Southern Arkansas.
 
Jacobitz is 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA and has 15 strikeouts in 19.0 innings. Hutchison is 2-2 with a 6.35 ERA and has eight strikeouts in 17.0 innings. Dickson is 0-1 with a 13.09 ERA and has six strikeouts in 11.0 innings.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 17th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 16 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 482-334 record. He has also had nine seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 21st year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. His combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan have him with a career record of 608-433.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
Southern Arkansas enters the midweek game at Tech 10-5 overall. They have won seven-straight games are coming off a series sweep at home against Southern Nazarene. Most-recently, the Muleriders beat Mississippi College 9-4 in a midweek game on the road this past Tuesday.
 
Offensively, the Muleriders are hitting .251 as a team (115-for-458) with 83 runs scored, 29 doubles, three triples and 15 home runs. They are led in hitting by Wyatt Fielding at .509 (27-for-53). Fielding has also been the power threat for the Muleriders as he leads the team in slugging percentage at 1.000 thanks to nine doubles, a triple and five home runs. Michael Herndon leads the team in RBIs with 17 while Fielding leads the team in runs scored with 20.
 
On the mound, the Muleriders have a 5.76 team ERA and have struck out 125 batters in 125.0 innings of work.
 
The Muleriders used a weekend rotation of Carter Gaston, Nate June and Easton Hurley in their weekend series against Southern Nazarene. Those three figure to be in the weekend rotation against Tech.
 
Gaston is 0-2 with a 9.92 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. June is 2-0 with a 4.86 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Hurley is 1-1 with a 3.92 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
 
The Muleriders are led by Justin Pettigrew, who is in his 10th season at Southern Arkansas. In his time at SAU, Pettigrew is 316-52.
