LEADING OFF
The Arkansas Tech baseball team is set to take their longest conference road trip of the season this weekend as they will head over to Alva for a three-game series at Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
The series is scheduled to be played over the course two days with a single game on Friday afternoon starting at 3 p.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
 
Historically, the Wonder Boys and Rangers have met 36 times before their clash this weekend. Tech holds a 27-9 lead in the series.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys enters the weekend series 4-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They are coming off a 2-1 series win last weekend at home against Southwestern Oklahoma, but are most-recently coming off a 3-2 loss at home against Southern Arkansas in non-conference midweek action this past Tuesday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys are hitting .228 as a team (84-for-368) with 56 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triple and four home runs. Weston Johnston currently leads the team in batting average at .429 (15-for-35). Johnston also been the early power threat for the Wonder Boys as he leads the team with a .457 slugging percentage thanks to a double to go along with is 14 singles. Johnston is tied with Kirby Jenkins for the team-lead in RBIs with 11. Jenkins also leads the team in runs scored with 10.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.75 and have struck out 64 batters in 98.2 innings of work.
 
Cole Dickson, Creighton Jacobitz and Daniel Hutchison all made starts over Tech's most-recent weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma and figure to be among the rotation this weekend against Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
Jacobitz is 1-2 with a 3.46 ERA and has 11 strikeouts in 13.0 innings. Hutchison is 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA and has three strikeouts in 11.0 innings. Dickson is 0-1 with a 15.43 ERA and has four strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 17th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 16 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 482-334 record. He has also had nine seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 21st year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. His combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan have him with a career record of 604-433.
 
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Northwestern Oklahoma is 6-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play. They were swept on the road at Harding last weekend to open conference play but lost a pair of games by one run. Most-recently, the Rangers are coming off a 14-3 win at Newman on Tuesday in midweek action.
 
Offensively, the Rangers are hitting .301 as a team (145-for-481) with 93 runs scored, 22 doubles, six triples and 10 home runs. They are led in hitting by Cole Barton at .367 (18-for-49). Alex Dabrowski has been the early power threat as he leads the team in slugging percentage at .579 thanks to a pair of triples and three home runs. Dabrowski is tied for second on the team with Barton in RBIs with 11. Amari Goodfellow is the team-leader in RBIs with 12 while Dabrowski leads the team in runs scored with 18.
 
On the mound, the Rangers have a 6.06 team ERA and have struck out 106 batters in 117.1 innings of work.
 
The Rangers used a weekend rotation of Will Kates, Logan Sandoval and Trey Barkman in their weekend series against Harding. Those three figure to be in the weekend rotation against Tech. Sandoval is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA with nine strikeouts in 16.0 innings. Kates is 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 14.0 innings. Barkman is 1-1 with a 7.94 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.
 
The Rangers are led by Ryan Bowen, who is in his ninth season at Northwestern Oklahoma. In his time at NWOSU, Bowen is 193-184.
