ALVA, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team got into an early hole in their road game at Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon but stormed back in the second half and held a couple of one-point leads before NWOSU found their footing and eventually secured 76-63 win over Tech.
The largest lead that NWOSU had in the first half was 16 points, 34-18, with 1:41 left. The Wonder Boys were able to bring that down to a 12-point margin by halftime and then came out strong over the first four minutes of the second half as they out-scored the Rangers 12-4 to shrink their deficit down to four points, 38-34, with 16:16 on the clock.
NWOSU hit a three at the 15:46 mark to go back up by seven points, but the Wonder Boys continued to press on and ripped off a 10-2 run over the nearly two minutes of action to come all the way back and grab a one-point lead, 44-43.
By the 11:41 mark, the lead changed hands three times as the Wonder Boys and Rangers traded baskets. The last of the lead changes went in favor of NWOSU at the 11:41 mark as they converted an old-fashioned three-point play off a missed three-point shot. That was the start of a 13-0 burst by the Rangers that ended with a three-pointer at the 8:34 mark as NWOSU was suddenly up by a dozen.
The Wonder Boys mounted another comeback effort and pulled within two points of the lead, 58-56, with 6:40 left, but the Rangers withstood the surge and went on to out-score Tech 18-7 the remainder of the game.
Two players scored in double figures for the Wonder Boys as
Connor Davis led with 15 points. He was followed by
Devin Foster and his 11 points.
The Wonder Boys will now return home where they are set to play three games over a five day stretch starting on Thursday, February 5.
