WEATHERFORD, Okla. – A slow offensive first half for the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team on Thursday night gave way to a white-hot second half and a furious comeback effort, but the surge would fall just short as Southwestern Oklahoma held on to win, 64-60.
In the first half, the Wonder Boys were limited to 20% shooting overall from the floor (4-of-20) and 14 points. On the other end, however, SWOSU managed just 30 points on 31% shooting (9-of-29) in the first half.
Trailing by 16 points at the break, the Wonder Boys would see their deficit get as high as 23 points by the 11:16 mark of the second half. Over the next 10 minutes or so of action, the Wonder Boys went on a monster run that saw them pull within a point of the lead, 61-60, with 45 seconds left.
During that stretch, the Wonder Boys made seven three-pointers and out-scored SWOSU 35-13. The Wonder Boys also created more scoring chances by forcing six turnovers.
That would be as close as the Wonder Boys would get as the Bulldogs were able to ice the game at the free throw line, making three of their final four attempts over the final 45 seconds to hold on for the four-point win.
The Wonder Boys had four players score in double figures and were led by
Devin Foster and his 16 points. He was 5-of-9 overall from the floor and 4-of-6 from three-point range.
David Elliott IV was next with 11 points while
Sam Bradford and
Connor Davis added 10 points each.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a second road game this weekend and will take on Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
