RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Less than 48 hours off a thrilling buzzer-beating win against East Central, the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team had that momentum carry over into their home against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon as they raced out to an early lead and went on to secure a 77-62 win.
That fast start saw the Wonder Boys get out to an 8-0 lead through the first two minutes of action. After Southeastern Oklahoma cracked the scoreboard at the 17:23 mark, the Wonder Boys would push their lead out to double digits a minute later.
By the 10:19 mark of the first half, the Wonder Boys had swelled their lead out to 18 points, 26-8. The first-half lead reached its height of 20 points by the 3:32 mark. The Savage Storm would make a pair of three points over the remainder of the half to make it a 14-point game at the break.
The Wonder Boys would maintain their lead throughout the entirety of the second half and led by double digits for all but about 10 seconds in the period as well as Southeastern managed to pull as close as nine points, 71-62, with 1:58 left to play. A pair of
David Elliott IV free throws at the 1:46 mark pushed the lead back into double digits.
Including those two makes by Elliott at the line, the Wonder Boys would make all six of their free throws down the stretch to close out the game and give them the 15-point win, 77-62.
Four Wonder Boys scored in double digits for the Wonder Boys against Southeastern.
Connor Davis and
Aiden Underdown tied for the team-lead with 17 apiece. Underdown added seven rebounds and three blocks.
Elliott IV was next in scoring with 13 points. He also notched a double-double as he had 10 assists.
Devin Foster rounded out double-figure scoring with 11 points.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for another week of home games. First up is a rivalry clash with Harding on Thursday, January 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
