FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech baseball team remains at home this weekend and will take on Henderson State in a marquee three-game Great American Conference series.
 
The series is slated to begin with a single game on Sunday evening starting at 6 p.m. Monday will have the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
 
The Wonder Boys and Reddies have met 182 times historically in a series that dates back to 1914. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech leads 107-75.
 
The two teams met three times last season with the weekend series being played at Henderson. The Wonder Boys would win the regular season series 2-1 after winning games one and three.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys enter their game at home against Henderson State with an 18-15 overall record and a 13-7 mark in conference play. Most-recently, Tech played a mid-week game at home against Mississippi College this past Tuesday and won 7-6.
                                                                                        
Entering play, the Wonder Boys are hitting .282 as a team (298-for-1,057) with 245 runs scored, 49 doubles, nine triples and 20 home runs. Cole Dawson currently leads the team in batting average at .381 (45-for-118) and leads the team in runs scored at 37. He is one of six players with at least 20 runs scored.
 
Simon Murray has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .543 thanks to a double and a team-high five home runs. Murray is one of six players on the team with at least 20 RBIs and leads the team in RBIs with 28.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.92 and have struck out 230 batters in 269.1 innings of work.
 
John Gray, Daniel Hutchison and Emiliano Mata made starts over the past weekend in the games played against Ouachita Baptist and figure to be a part of this weekend's rotation as well.
 
Gray is 0-2 with an 8.46 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. Hutchison is 4-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 43 strikeouts across 45.0 innings. Mata is 1-2 with a 6.55 ERA and eight strikeouts over 22.0 innings.
 
Eleven relievers have made multiple appearances with JT Cafferty having the most with 12. Cafferty is 1-0 with four saves and a 2.45 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. Austin Mittlestedt and Turner Seelinger are the other two relivers with double-digit appearances with 11 each. Mittlestedt is currently 2-1 with a 6.55 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11.0 innings. Seelinger is 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 16th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 15 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 450-311 record. He has also had eight seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 20th year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. His combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan have him with a career record of 586-417.
 
SCOUTING HENDERSON STATE
Henderson State enters the game at Tech with an 18-16 overall record and a 12-9 mark in the GAC. The Reddies are coming off a weekend series at home against SAU and a home mid-week game against nationally-ranked Delta State. Henderson would lose the weekend series 2-1 and then dropped the mid-week game, 7-3.
 
Offensively, the Reddies are hitting .309 as a team (352-for-1,138) with 245 runs scored, 70 doubles, six triples and 37 home runs.
 
Luke Farrar leads the team in batting average at .391 (54-for-138). Farrar also leads the team in slugging at .688 thanks to nine doubles, a triple and 10 home runs. He also leads the team in RBIs and runs scored. Farrar's RBI total is 43 and he is one of four Reddies that have driven in at least 20 runs. His runs scored total is at 38 and he is one of six Reddies with at least 20 runs scored.
 
On the mound, the Reddies have a 6.60 team ERA and have struck out 249 batters in 281.0 innings of work.
 
This past weekend, the Reddies had a starting rotation of Cole Rodriguez, Ethan Roark and Dawson Goines last weekend against Southern Arkansas. Rodriguez is 4-1 with a 4.20 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. Roark is 4-3 with a 5.45 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 39.2 innings. Goines is 1-2 with an 11.57 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
 
The Reddies are led by Cody Hooten, who is in his 15th season as head coach at Henderson State. In his time at HSU, Hooten is 395-329-1.
