RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team fell into an early hole that proved to be too much to overcome on Friday night as they lost at home to Southeastern Oklahoma, 68-49.
After trailing 5-0 through the first two minutes or so of action, the Wonder Boys slowly managed to knot the score at five-all by the 14:24 mark. About a minute later, Southeastern broke the tie to remain out in front. They would hold a modest lead over the next two or so minutes of play, but began to create separation from Tech over the remainder of the half.
At the 11:28 mark, Southeastern started a 14-1 run that went to the 4:13 mark and gave the Savage Storm a 15-point lead. That would be the margin at the break as Southeastern led, 36-21.
Early in the second half, the Savage Storm pushed the lead out as high as 20 points on a pair of occasions with the last being at the 15:28 mark. Over the next 5:45 of game time, however, the Wonder Boys roared back into the game and went on a 15-1 run to get as close as six points of the lead, 50-44, with 9:43 left.
Southeastern Oklahoma eventually found their footing once more and by the 7:02 mark, they had pushed their lead back out to double digits. Unfortunately, the Wonder Boys went cold on offense the remainder of the game and Southeastern went on to win by a margin of 19 points, 68-49.
Tech was led in scoring by
Cassius Brooks with 24 points. Eight other Wonder Boys scored in the game with
Braden Tanner having the second-most points at five.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a home game on Sunday afternoon against East Central. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
