RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team fell behind early against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon and was unable to overcome the deficit, eventually losing by a score of 68-62.
After jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead, Ouachita went on to lead wire-to-wire in the game. Their largest lead of the first half was 10 points, which came on a pair of occasions. At the half, the Tigers led by nine over the Wonder Boys.
Within the first two minutes of the second half, the lead swelled to 14 for Ouachita. By the 16:51 mark, the lead reached its peak of 16 points.
Despite the double-digit deficit, the Wonder Boys put forth a strong comeback effort that saw them get within three points, 52-49, by the 6:16 mark. In getting down that close, the Wonder Boys had engineered a 9-0 run that started at the 9:59 mark.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Wonder Boys would get as Ouachita was able to snap the run on their ensuing possession and go back up by five. With 1:30 left on the clock, Ouachita had pushed their lead as high as nine points before coming away with a six-point win.
The Wonder Boys were led in scoring by
Cassius Brooks and his 22 points.
Seybian Sims and
Braden Tanner were next and rounded out double-figure scoring with 12 points apiece.
Tech will now prepare for another week of home games as they will host Southeastern Oklahoma this coming Thursday night and then East Central next Saturday afternoon. Tip-off for the Southeastern game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
