FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech baseball team is back on the road this weekend and will travel to the wind tunnel of the west otherwise known as Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford for a three-game series. This will be the first Great American Conference series of the season for both teams.

The series is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Friday at Noon and then conclude with a single game at Noon on Saturday. Depending on the weather outlook on Saturday, the finale could be started earlier than Noon.

The Wonder Boys and Bulldogs have met 44 times historically in a series that dates back to 2010. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 28-16 lead over SWOSU.

The two teams met three times last regular season with a three-game conference series being played at Tech. Tech swept the weekend series, 7-1, 4-2 and 9-3.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys enter their weekend series 1-6. This past weekend, Tech played a four-game series on the road at No. 3-ranked Central Missouri. The Wonder Boys would win the second game of the series, 4-3 in 12 innings.

Entering play this weekend, the Wonder Boys are hitting .208 as a team (48-for-231) with 32 runs scored, nine doubles, and three home runs.
Sawyer Duddleston currently leads the team in batting average at .281 (9-for-32).
Duddleston also has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .531 thanks to two doubles and two home runs. Additionally, he is tied for the team-lead in RBIs at six with
Kirby Jenkins.

On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 7.91 and have struck out 48 batters in 58.0 innings of work.

Cole Dickson,
Daniel Hutchison and
Jack Rector made starts over the past weekend at UCM and figure to be a part of this weekend's rotation as well.
Rector is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 9.0 innings.
Dickson is 0-1 with a 10.57 ERA and three strikeouts in 7.2 innings.
Hutchison is 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA and six strikeouts across 7.0 innings.

JT Cafferty has had the most success out of the bullpen early on. He has made three appearances and is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and three strikeouts over 4.0 innings. Eight other relievers have made multiple appearances with
Austin Mittlestedt tying for the most with
Cafferty at three.

Leading the Wonder Boys once more is
Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history,
Dawson enters his 16th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 15 seasons,
Dawson has guided amassed a 450-314 record. He has also had eight seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.

Overall,
Dawson is in his 20th year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. His combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan have him with a career record of 569-408.

SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
Southwestern Oklahoma enters this weekend series at home against Tech with a 7-1 overall record and all eight of their games thus far have been played at home. The Bulldogs have also won four-straight after sweeping a four-game series at home this past weekend against Adams State.

Offensively, the Bulldogs are hitting .318 as a team (78-for-245) with 61 runs scored, 13 doubles, three triples and seven home runs.
Â
Markus Coronado leads the team in batting average early on at .485 (14-for-29).
Bodi Wallar has provided the most power production thus far with a .750 slugging percentage thanks to two doubles and two homers.
Wallar is also tied for the second-most RBIs at seven with
Coronado and
Connor Jeffers.
Gage Gaunt leads the team in RBIs with nine while
Coronado is tied for the team-lead in runs scored with
Campbell Sullivan at nine.

On the mound, the Bulldogs have a 4.15 team ERA and have struck out 57 batters in 65.0 innings of work.

The Bulldogs have had four pitchers start games with all four starting twice. The four who have started for the Bulldogs have been
Garrett Coiner,
Josh Doelitsch,
Drew Fifer and
Philip Sanders.

Sanders has logged the most innings thus far at 13.2 and is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA and five strikeouts.
Doelitsch is the only other starter with a decision. He is 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA and 10 strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
Fifer has the most strikeouts among starters with 12. He Is 0-0 with a 4.05 ERA in 6.2 innings of work.

In addition to the four that have started games, the Bulldogs have used 11 other pitchers in strictly relief roles. Eight of those have made multiple appearances with four appearing in at least three games.

The Bulldogs are led by
JR Head, who is in his first season as head coach at his alma mater, Southwestern Oklahoma. No stranger to the program,
Head was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs (2013-2014) and then transitioned right into coaching at SWOSU first as a volunteer, then a graduate assistant and then as the head assistant prior to his appointment at the helm.
