ADA, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team dropped their road match at East Central on Friday night, 3-0.
In the match, the Golden Suns registered more kills than ECU, but the Tigers were able to limit their attack errors relative to Tech, helping to push them over the top.
In the opening set, the Golden Suns grabbed control after breaking a seven-all tie with a three-point burst. Later in the set, the Tech lead was trimmed to just a point, 15-14, but the Golden Suns rattled off a four-point run to take their largest lead, five points, 19-14.
With that margin remaining and the score 21-16 in favor of Tech, ECU battled back and scored four-straight points to suddenly trail by a point. After trading points, the Tigers managed to tie the set at 23-all. The Golden Suns promptly broke the tie on a kill by
Savannah Meyer, which was one of her team-leading 17, but ECU scored the next three points to complete the late comeback and win the set, 26-24.
The second set was close throughout until the Tigers, with the set tied at 17-all, scored four of the next five points to take a 21-18 lead. The Golden Suns would only be able to get as close as two points the remainder of the set before ECU closed it out with a three-point margin, 25-22.
The momentum of the first two set victories carried over for the Tigers as they established a four-point lead early, 8-4. Later on, the Golden Suns cut that deficit in half and trailed 14-12, but the Tigers then ripped off a five-point run that pushed their lead out to seven. ECU would manage to hold off the Golden Suns over the remainder of the set to complete the sweep.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a quick turnaround as they will remain on the road and face Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
