MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech football team was unable to slow down Southern Arkansas' momentum following an early first quarter turnover and eventually lost on the road at SAU by a score of 49-3.
The momentum-shifting takeaway came after the Wonder Boys looked as if they might have been building momentum of their own as they had just forced a three-and-out of the Muleriders and were poised to get the ball back with decent field position trailing 7-3. Prior to that defensive stand, the Wonder Boys had just engineered a 12-play, 72-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard
Austin Hosier field goal.
Unfortunately, on that initial punt by the Muleriders, the return attempt was muffed, and SAU recovered at the Tech 33-yardline. Six plays later, SAU turned the takeaway into points with a 17-yard touchdown run by their quarterback.
The Muleriders would go on to hold the Wonder Boys scoreless over the remainder of the game.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare to return home for a game against Northwestern Oklahoma. That game is Family Day and kick-off from Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
