FIRST PITCH
The No. 18-ranked Arkansas Tech baseball team is set to conclude its nine-game marathon road stint this weekend at Arkansas-Monticello as the two will play a three-game Great American Conference series.
 
The weekend series is slated to start with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and conclude with a single-game on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Live coverage for the game can be found at: www.ArkansasTechSports.com/coverage.
 
According to the best available historical records, the Wonder Boys and Boll Weevils have met 161 times in a series that started in 1948. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 109-58 lead over UAM.
 
The two teams previously played one another in a mid-week game in Russellville back in mid-February. Tech would win that game 16-8.
 
TALKING TECH                                                       
The Wonder Boys enter their weekend series on the road at Arkansas-Monticello with an overall record of 22-10 and a 15-3 mark in the GAC. Tech is coming off a loss in their most-recent game played as they lost to Henderson State 14-6 during mid-week action. Prior to that, the Wonder Boys secured a weekend sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma on the road. It was the Wonder Boys' fourth weekend series sweep of the season.
 
Overall, the Wonder Boys enter their weekend series against the Boll Weevils hitting .319 as a team (348-for-1,090) with 291 runs scored, 70 doubles, 12 triples and 28 home runs. Brandon Bunton currently leads the team in batting average at .389 (37-for-95) and is one of eight players that have scored at least 20 runs this season. A total of three players have scored 30 or more runs with Sawyer Duddleston pacing the team with 40 runs scored.
 
Keaton Ranallo has been providing the best power production thus far and is leading the team in home runs with eight. Ranallo also has 10 doubles and two triples to post a team-best .680 slugging percentage. Eight other Wonder Boys have hit home runs this season with Duddleston, Markos Cabranes, Sam Stephenson, Logan Schwenke and Nick Jones all having multiple homers.
 
On the RBI front, the Wonder Boys have a total of six players with 20 or more RBIs and three that have surpassed 30. Duddleston is leading the team in RBIs with 37 while Ranallo is second with 34.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.63 and have struck out 223 batters in 255.1 innings of work.
 
This past weekend, Tech employed a starting rotation of John Gray, Marshall Brown and Emilano Mata against Southwestern Oklahoma. Gray and Mata have both started eight games while Brown has now made three starts.
  
In terms of the bullpen for the Wonder Boys, Will Horton has made the most relief appearances thus far with 15. Mason Griffin has five of the team's six saves for the Wonder Boys. Gerald Pintarich has the other.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 14th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 13 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 380-269 record. He has also had six seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 18th year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. Dawson's combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan stand at 523. He earned the milestone 500th win in the series opener vs. No. 13-ranked Central Missouri back in February.
 
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
The Boll Weevils enter the weekend series against Tech with an 18-12 overall record and a 10-8 record in GAC play. UAM has won three-straight games including their most-recent mid-week game on the road at Union, 10-3. Prior to that mid-week, the Boll Weevils won the series at home against Southern Nazarene. UAM dropped the first game, but proceeded to win the next two to claim the series.
 
Statistically, the Boll Weevils enter the mid-week game with Tech hitting .305 as a team (300-for-985) with 236 runs scored, 62 doubles, eight triples and 33 home runs. The leading hitter in terms of average so far is Cade Cancilla at .368 (39-for-106). Cancilla is also the leading RBI-man with 29. He is one of four Boll Weevils with at least 40 RBIs.
 
UAM has 10 players who have hit a home run this season with eight leaving yard on multiple occasions. Kirk Woolf leads the team with eight and is followed by Chase Cripps at six. Five other Boll Weevils are tied with three homers apiece.
 
On the mound, the Boll Weevils have a 7.11 team ERA and have struck out 253 batters in 241.2 innings of work.
 
This past weekend, the Boll Weevils employed a starting rotation of Connor Irvine, Mason Philley, and Derek Potts against Southern Nazarene. Those three have been the weekend arms all season long for UAM as they all have appeared and started in at least eight games. Philley has made one extra appearance and start.
 
Outside of that weekend rotation, the Boll Weevils have used 12 other pitchers in relief roles. Lane Ladner had the most relief appearances with 11. As a team, the Boll Weevils have registered five saves. River Hunt leads the team with four saves while Ladner has the other one.
 
UAM is led by John Harvey, who is in his 13th season with the Boll Weevils. In his time at UAM, Harvey has won over 300 games and has won 30 or more in a season six times. Prior to going to UAM, Harvey spent six seasons as head coach at Henderson State where he accumulated over 150 wins. Overall, Harvey has amassed a 482-396 record for his career.
