FIRST PITCH
The No. 20-ranked Arkansas Tech baseball team is now on the back half of their nine-game road stretch and are set to play their sixth-consecutive road game on Tuesday. This time, the Wonder Boys will be rolling into Arkadelphia and playing a mid-week game at Henderson State.
 
The mid-week game against Henderson State is slated to start at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 from Clyde Berry Field. Live coverage for the game can be found at: www.ArkansasTechSports.com/coverage.
 
According to the best available historical records, the Wonder Boys and Reddies have met 178 times in a series that started in 1914. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 105-73 lead over Henderson State.
 
The two teams previously played one another in a weekend series in Russellville back in early March. At the time of the series, Henderson State was ranked No. 20 in the country according to the NCBWA Top-25 DII Poll. Tech would go on to sweep the series, winning 9-6, 12-6 and 26-15 in seven innings.
 
TALKING TECH                                                       
The Wonder Boys enter their mid-week game on the road at Henderson State with an overall record of 22-9. They are coming off a weekend sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma on the road. It was the Wonder Boys' fourth weekend series sweep of the season.
 
This will also be Tech's seventh true mid-week game of the season and their third against a GAC opponent. Tech is 4-2 in those previous mid-week games.
 
Overall, the Wonder Boys enter their mid-week game against the Reddies hitting .320 as a team (338-for-1,055) with 285 runs scored, 67 doubles, 11 triples and 28 home runs. Brandon Bunton currently leads the team in batting average at .387 (36-for-93) and is one of eight players that have scored at least 20 runs this season. A total of three players have scored 30 or more runs with Sawyer Duddleston pacing the team with 40 runs scored.
 
Keaton Ranallo has been providing the best power production thus far and is leading the team in home runs with eight. His .669 slugging percentage is second on the team behind Duddleston. Eight other Wonder Boys have hit home runs this season with Duddleston, Markos Cabranes, Sam Stephenson, Logan Schwenke and Nick Jones all having multiple homers.
 
On the RBI front, the Wonder Boys have a total of six players with 20 or more RBIs and two that have surpassed 30. Duddleston is leading the team in RBIs with 37 while Ranallo is second with 34.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.37 and have struck out 209 batters in 247.1 innings of work.
 
John Gray, Emilano Mata, Jack Rector, Gerald Pintarich, Ethan Fritz, Marshall Brown and Tyler Sardelli have made starts on the mound thus far. Gray, Brown and Mata started this past weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma. Fritz has made four mid-week starts and started the first game of a two-game mid-week series at Delta State last week.
 
In terms of the bullpen for the Wonder Boys, Will Horton has made the most relief appearances thus far with 14. Mason Griffin has five of the team's six saves for the Wonder Boys. Gerald Pintarich has the other.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 14th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 13 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 380-269 record. He has also had six seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 18th year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. Dawson's combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan stand at 520. He earned the milestone 500th win in the series opener vs. No. 13-ranked Central Missouri back in February.
 
SCOUTING HENDERSON STATE
The Reddies enter the mid-week game against Tech with an 18-12 overall record and are coming off a series win at home against East Central. The Reddies were upset in the opener of the series and lost to ECU 4-1, but bounced back in game two with a 19-0 walloping of the Tigers. They then went on to win the finale, 8-4.
 
Prior to that series, the Reddies won a mid-week game at No. 14-ranked Southern Arkansas, 4-1. This will be HSU's sixth true mid-week game this season. They are 3-2 in those previous five games.
 
Statistically, the Reddies enter the mid-week game with Tech hitting .305 as a team (309-for-1,013) with 220 runs scored, 61 doubles, 13 triples and 37 home runs. The leading hitter in terms of average so far is Luke Rice at .421 (40-for-95). Rice also leads the team in slugging percentage at .737 thanks to seven doubles (3rd on team), a triple and seven home runs (leads team). Additionally, Rice is also one of six Reddies with 20 or more RBIs and paces the club with 34 RBIs.
 
On the mound, the Reddies have a 4.96 team ERA and have struck out 225 batters in 247.0 innings of work.
 
The Reddies have had six pitchers start games with Ryan Galvan, Andrew Howard, Reese Weeks and Ethan Roark each making multiple stars. Galvan, Howard and Roark made starts past weekend against East Central.
 
Roark has made the start in each of the last three mid-week games for the Reddies.
Outside of those six arms with multiple starts, the Reddies have used 13 other pitchers in prominent relief roles. Owen Vanthillo had the most relief appearances with 11. As a team, the Reddies have registered nine saves. Cade Tucker leads the team with four saves while Henry Coppens and Mitchell Szcygiel have two and Trevor Davis one.
 
Henderson State is led by Cody Hooten, who is in his 13th season with as head coach the Reddies. In his time at the helm of Henderson, Hooten has won 328 games and led the Reddies to three Central Region Tournaments, a GAC Tournament championship and an appearance in the Division II World Series.
