FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech baseball team is set to carry a six-game winning streak with them on the road this weekend as they are slated to play a three-game Great American Conference series at Southern Nazarene.
 
The series is slated to be played with a single game starting at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. Live coverage for all games in the series can be found at: www.ArkansasTechSports.com/coverage.
 
The Wonder Boys and Crimson Storm have met 24 times in a series that started in 2013 when SNU became members of the Great American Conference. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 21-3 lead over SNU.
 
The two teams met three times last regular season with all three games coming in the conference series, which was played at Tech. The Wonder Boys would sweep the series.
 
TALKING TECH
The Wonder Boys enters this weekend series at Southern Nazarene with an overall record of 8-4 and are 3-0 in GAC play. Tech is currently on a six-game winning streak that dates back to a 9-5 win in the series finale against then No. 13-ranked Central Missouri on February 12. In the time since that streak started, Tech has a mid-week wins against Arkansas-Monticello and then No. 2-ranked Southern Arkansas as well as a weekend series sweep of a talented Oklahoma Baptist team that was picked to finish third in the preseason poll.
 
During this winning streak, the Wonder Boys have scored 10 or more runs four times and are averaging 11 runs per game.
 
Overall, the Wonder Boys enter the weekend against Southern Nazarene hitting .284 as a team (112-for-394) with 91 runs scored, 21 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs. Sawyer Duddleston currently leads the team in batting average at .375 (15-for-40). Duddleston is also pacing the team in slugging percentage at .750 and is tied for the team-lead in RBIs with 14. Cade McBride and Keaton Ranallo lead the team in doubles with four each while Duddleston leads the team in triples with two.
 
Ranallo currently leads the team in home runs with three. Duddleston, Sam Stephenson and Logan Schwenke all have two home runs each. Two other Wonder Boys have 10 RBIs to tie for second on the team.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.20 and have struck out 90 batters in 97.1 innings of work.
 
In Tech's initial weekend of conference play, they employed a starting rotation of John Gray, Emilano Mata and Jack Rector. That trio have all made three appearances and three starts this season. Ethan Fritz has got the start in both mid-week games while Gerald Pintarich has made one start among his four total appearances.
 
Aside from those five who have made starts, 11 other pitchers have taken the mound for the Wonder Boys in relief roles. Will Horton has the most relief appearances thus far with six. Marshall Brown has logged the most innings in relief with 14.0 to his credit. Mason Griffin has three of the team's four saves for the Wonder Boys. Pintarich has the other.
 
Leading the Wonder Boys once more is Dave Dawson. The all-time winningest coach in Tech Baseball history, Dawson enters his 14th year in the dugout for the Wonder Boys. In his previous 13 seasons, Dawson has guided amassed a 380-269 record. He has also had six seasons with 30 or more wins which includes the 2014 season in which he led the team a program-record 44 wins and hosting rights for that year's Central Region Tournament.
 
Overall, Dawson is in his 18th year as a head baseball coach at the collegiate level as he spent four years as head coach at Kansas Wesleyan and totaled 118 wins. Dawson's combined win total at Tech and Kansas Wesleyan stand at 506. He earned the milestone 500th win in the series opener vs. No. 13-ranked Central Missouri back in February.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
Southern Nazarene enters the weekend series against Tech with a 3-7 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the GAC. The Crimson Storm have dropped their last two and three of their last four as they lost the series on the road at Harding and a lost a mid-week game at home against Central Oklahoma. In the series with Harding, SNU won the middle game 4-3.
 
Statistically, the Crimson Storm enter the game against Tech hitting .314 as a team (105-for-334) with 85 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples and 12 home runs. The leading hitter in terms of average so far is Dax Edmonds at .439 (18-for-41). Edmonds is also tied with two others in doubles with three and is second on the team in RBIs with 12.
 
Three other Crimson Storm hitters have registered double-digit RBIs and are paced by DJ Van Atten and is 14 RBIs. Van Atten is also tied for the team-lead in home runs with Colby Entwistle at three.
 
On the mound, the Crimson Storm have a 12.16 team ERA and have struck out 51 batters in 77.0 innings of work.
 
The Crimson Storm have had six pitchers start games with Casey Minchey, Oliver Wilson and Lane Behymer each making multiple stars. This past weekend against Harding, Minchey and Behymer made starts along with Cobey Correll, who was making his first start of the season. In addition to the six that have made at least one start, the Crimson Storm have used five other pitchers in relief roles.
 
Southern Nazarene is led by Grant Ledbetter, who is in his fourth season with as head coach of his alma mater. In his time at the helm of SNU, Ledbetter has won 30 games and improved upon the team's win total each of his first three seasons.
