ATU head tennis coach Shaun Wiseman honored as Newton County Officer of the Year

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – On Tuesday, Arkansas Tech University head women's tennis coach Shaun Wiseman was honored for his work outside of coaching as he was named the Newton County Officer of the Year. Arkansas Attorney General, Tim Griffin bestowed the honor on Wiseman at the annual Officer of the Year luncheon in Benton.

"I am just humbled to be mentioned in the same breath as so many amazing officers across the state of Arkansas," remarked Wiseman. "I will try to live up to what this award represents to so many in the law enforcement field."

A 2007 graduate of Arkansas Tech, Wiseman returned to his alma mater in August of 2022 to take over as head women's tennis coach, and in his very first season, led the Golden Suns to a GAC Regular Season Championship. His appointment at Tech returned Wiseman to collegiate tennis after last being the head coach at nearby University of the Ozarks from 2008-2014.

In the interim of his time as a collegiate tennis coach, Wiseman spent time as the Director of Tennis/Facilities at Burns Park in North Little Rock and also began working in law enforcement with roles as a probation officer for Arkansas Community Corrections as well as a patrolman for the Jasper Police Department.

Upon returning to Tech, Wiseman remained with the Jasper Police Department and has continued to serve and protect that community on a part-time basis.
