RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team played a non-conference match at home on Sunday against Missouri Western. Playing until clinch, the Golden Suns fell by a score of 4-0.
With impending inclement weather and significant wind guts, the match was flipped to where singles were played first, ultimately leaving doubles unplayed.
In singles, Missouri Western got the first point of the match at the top flight as
Elis Gergel was forced to retire due to injury towards the end of the first set. At the time of her retirement, Gergel was up in the set, 5-3.
The Griffons then picked up straight sets wins at flights two and five to pull within a point of clinching. That point came at flight three.
At the time of the clinch, two singles matches were in progress and left unfinished. At flight six,
Nayara Alvarez was about to play a third-set tiebreaker after she leveled her match with a 6-3 win in set two.
The other singles match left unfinished saw
Rebecca Arnold up 1-0 after a 6-4 win in the first set and leading in the second set, 3-2.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final two non-conference matches of the season later this week as they will be on the road at Northeastern State on Tuesday and then at University of the Ozarks on Wednesday.
