RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech junior defensive end
Vershaud Richardson has been named as the latest Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week as it was announced by the league office on Monday.
It is the first GAC weekly award in the career of Richardson and the third this season for the Wonder Boys football program. Previously, the Wonder Boys had an offensive player of the week in
Taye Gatewood and a special teams player of the week in
Aaron Winn.
A native of Paris, Texas, Richardson came up with 2.0 of Arkansas Tech's four sacks as part of the Wonder Boys' 14-7 home win against Southeastern Oklahoma State this past Saturday.
The two-sack performance increased his season total to 10.5 sacks and was his third game with multiple sacks. That mark currently ranks third in Division II, is tied for the lead in the GAC and is the third-most in season for a Wonder Boy.
