FIRST SERVE
The Arkansas Tech volleyball team jumps back into Great American Conference play this weekend and will make their lone trip to Oklahoma as they are set to play at Southwestern Oklahoma and Northwestern Oklahoma on consecutive days.
 
First-serve against Southwestern Oklahoma is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday. The following day against Northwestern Oklahoma will have a 4 p.m. start time.
 
Last season, the Golden Suns faced the Bulldogs and Rangers once in the regular season, playing both matches at home. Tech would drop both matches in straight sets.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend's matches at Southwestern Oklahoma and Northwestern Oklahoma 1-16 overall and 1-6 in the GAC. They most-recently played a non-conference match on the road at Arkansas-Fort Smith and lost in three sets this past Tuesday.
 
Offensively, the Golden Suns are averaging 10.8 kills/set and have a .136 team attack percentage. They have three players with at least 100 kills and are led by Kaitlyn Neal and her 130 kills. Jordan Clouse has the highest attack percentage on the team at .257 (50-kills, 136-attempts, 15-errors).
 
The Golden Suns' primary setter has been Gracie Palmer. Of the team's 591 assists registered thus far, Palmer has accounted for 324.
 
Defensively the Golden Suns are averaging 13.3 digs/set and 1.4 blocks per set. Jamie Myrick leads the team in digs with 221. Lauren Grier currently leads the team in blocks with 46.0.
 
The head coach of the Golden Suns is Kera Coleman. She is in her sixth year as head coach of her alma mater and seventh overall. In her time at Tech, Coleman is 71-77. Overall, she's 90-89­.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Southwestern Oklahoma
SWOSU comes into this weekend's matches with an 11-5 overall record and a 5-2 mark start in the GAC. The Bulldogs have won three-straight matches, all of which have come in five sets. The first two in that stretch were against GAC opponents as SWOSU went on the road and beat Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist in consecutive days. Most-recently, the Bulldogs won a non-conference match at Cameron in five sets this past Tuesday.
 
Offensively, the Bulldogs are averaging 12.4 kills/set and have a .192 team attack percentage. They have five players with at least 100 kills and are led by Lacy Mott and her 244 kills. Mott also has the highest attack percentage among prominent attackers on the team at .239 (244-kills, 682-attacks, 81-errors).
 
The Bulldogs have split time almost down the middle at setter between Terez Chavez and Cameron Turner. The two have combined for 681 of the team's 801 assists registered thus far. Chavez has the slight lead in assists with 351, while Turner is not far behind at 330.
 
Defensively the Bulldogs are averaging 15.9 digs/set and 2.1 blocks per set. Jada Permenter leads the team in digs with 312. At the net, Zoey Sparks leads the team with 82.0 blocks.
 
The head coach of the Bulldogs is Josh Collins. He is in his 12th year as head coach at his alma mater, Southwestern Oklahoma. In his time at SWOSU, Collins has a 175-159 record.
 
Northwestern Oklahoma
NWOSU comes into this weekend's matches with a 7-11 overall record and a 3-4 mark start in the GAC. Before playing Tech on Friday afternoon, the Rangers will have hosted Harding the day prior.
 
The Rangers have lost two-straight with both being road conference losses. The first of those was a 3-0 shutout at Henderson State. The second came the next day with a 3-1 loss at Ouachita Baptist.
 
Offensively, the Rangers are averaging 11.5 kills/set and have a .163 team attack percentage. They have two players with at least 100 kills and are led by Erika Asencio Soriano and her 221 kills. Mariela Jimenez has the highest attack percentage among prominent attackers on the team at .293 (141-kills, 335-attacks, 43-errors).
 
The Rangers' primary setter has been Cameron Lobb. Of the team's 734 assists registered thus far, Lobb has accounted for 528.
 
Defensively the Rangers are averaging 15.1 digs/set and 1.9 blocks per set. Brianda Diaz leads the team in digs with 272. At the net, Carmae Jones leads the team with 54.0 blocks.
 
The head coach of the Rangers is Jon Bingesser. He is in his 2nd year as head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma and his ninth overall. In his time at NWOSU, Bingesser has a 25-26 record and an overall record of 207-91.
