RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team is in the 2022 Great American Conference Baseball Tournament as the No. 8-seed and are set to open play on Saturday against top-seeded Southern Arkansas. First-pitch for the game is slated for 12:40 p.m. This year's tournament will be held for the first time at the newly-constructed Majestic Park in Hot Springs.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
The Muleriders enter the GAC Tournament 37-11 overall and finished the conference play at 27-6 to earn the top-seed in the tournament. The Muleriders are coming off their only conference series loss of the season as they dropped 2-of-3 to rival Arkansas-Monticello on the road. Prior to that weekend of action, the Muleriders had won seven-straight and out-scored their opponents 78-20.
 
Offensively, the Muleriders are hitting .311 as a team (483-for-1,553) with 465 runs scored, 100 doubles, 12 triples and 85 home runs. Entering the tournament, the Muleriders have six players hitting .300 or better with Riley Orr leading the way at .376 (50-for-133).
 
In terms of power numbers, the Muleriders have 14 players with a home run and all but one of those have multiple homers. Tucker Burton leads the team in homers with 14. Brett McGee and Brandon Nicoll join Burton in double-digit home run totals with 11 and 10, respectively. Five others have at least five home runs as well. Nicoll is pacing the team in RBIs with 60. Four other Muleriders hitters have at least 40 RBIs.
 
On the mound, the Muleriders have a 4.52 team ERA and have struck out 402 batters in 378.2 innings of work.
 
The typical weekend rotation of the Muleriders has consisted of Jeremy Adorno, Jacob Womack and Wyatt Marr. Those three have combined to make 36 starts and are collectively 26-3 with 247 strikeouts in 221.1 innings of work. Adorno, the recently unanimously named GAC Pitcher of the Year paces the starters and is an unblemished 13-0 with a 2.16 ERA. He has 119 strikeouts in 87.2 innings. Marr is 7-1 with a 3.93 ERA and has 47 Ks in 66.1 innings. Womack is 6-2 with a 4.68 ERA and has 81 strikeouts in 67.1 innings.
 
Outside of their latest weekend rotation, 15 different pitchers have been used by SAU. The most appearances made by a reliever is nine and has been done by Chance Bolter, Parker Abrego and Jack Liddell. Bolter is 3-0 with a save and a 1.00 ERA. He has six strikeouts in 9.0 innings. Abrego is 1-0 with a 1.53 ERA and has 24 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. As a team, SAU has notched seven saves. Kade Garmany and Isiah Haynes each have two saves with the remaining three coming from different pitchers each.
 
TECH TIDBITS
The Wonder Boys enters the GAC Tournament 25-21 overall and after going 15-17 in conference action, they are the No. 8-seed. The Wonder Boys are also coming off a tough series sweep on the road at Harding to close out the regular season. The first two games of that series went 10 innings with Harding pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the 10th. The finale was the only game in the series not decided by a run.
 
Offensively, the Wonder Boys enter the tournament hitting .292 as a team (430-for-1,473) with 292 runs scored, 79 doubles, eight triples and 53 home runs. Individually, the Wonder Boys have four batters with at least 100 at-bats hitting .300 or better with Yadier Medina, a First Team All-GAC selection, leading the team at .380 (54-for-142).
 
In terms of power numbers, the Wonder Boys have 11 players with a home run and ten of those have multiple home runs. Tech is currently led by Shelby Quiggins with 12 homers. Josh Detwiler joins Quiggins in double-digit HRs with 10. Detweiler and Quiggins were both named Honorable Mention All-GAC. Two other Wonder Boys have at least six homers. Evan Hafley leads the team in RBIs with 35. Four other Wonder Boys have driven in at least 25 runs as well.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.00 and have struck out 353 batters in 369.0 innings of work.
 
Patrick Miner, Shane Scott and Will Horton have made up the weekend rotation throughout the year and are 13-12 combined with 178 strikeouts in 193.0 innings of work. Miner, a First Team All-GAC pitcher, paces the starters with a 7-3 record and a 4.46 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 82.2 innings. Scott is 4-4 with a 5.88 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 56.2 innings. Horton is currently 2-5 with a 7.88 ERA and has 48 strikeouts in 53.2 innings of work.
 
In relief, the Wonder Boys have notched seven saves with Ty Van Meter, a Second Team All-GAC selection, accounting for five of the saves. He has appeared in 12 games and currently has 24 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
