HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The No. 30 ranked Golden Suns golf team showed no faulter to the rainy day one of the DII NCAA Central Region Championships, shooting a combined 12 over par and landing second between Rogers State and Henderson State.

Leading the nine-team tournament is Rogers State with a slim four-stroke lead in front of Arkansas Tech who shot 300 on the day. Following on the heals is Henderson State who took the GAC Championship title only weeks ago at the same club.
Leading the Golden Suns is GAC All-GAC first teamer
Jacqueline Klemm who finished 2-over on the day after her steady game kept her one-over for fourteen consecutive holes. One extra stroke on the 18th hole capped her first round at 74 to tie for sixth.
Josie Roberson holds the same tie for sixth as Klemm. Roberson caught back up in the back nine with birdies on holes 13 (par 5) and 16 (par 4) to knock her score back down to 2-over (74).
GAC Freshman of the Year
Orla O'Leary, who was dealing with an injury during the GAC Championships, came back swinging to tie for 15th with four clutch birdies (holes 1, 10, 16, and 18) to combat a triple bogie on hole 5 (par 5). She finished round one 4-over (76)
. Bhenyapa Buranasiri also tied for 15th with O'Leary grabbing a birdie on hole 15 (par 3) and finished 4-over (76).
All-GAC second teamer
Katie Whitfield rounded off the Golden Suns five with an 8-over finish (80) to tie for 32nd.
Round two is set to tee off at 10 a.m. for the Golden Suns who are paired with Rogers State and Henderson State.
