RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The No. 5 regionally ranked Golden Suns golf team are set to begin the NCAA DII Central Region Preview not far from home at the Hot Spring Country Club of Hot Springs on Monday, May 2-4.
The Golden Suns have advanced to the National Finals in six of the last seven full years of competition including three-straight (2019, 2018, 2017).
The 2020-21 season rendered the Golden Suns second DII Central Region Championship and ended their road in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA DII National Championships against Lynn College.
This season has seen nine top-10 finishes, two GAC Golfers of the Week, four All-GAC accolades, and the GAC Freshman of the Year in newcomer
Orla O'Leary.
The Golden Suns will compete on the familiar turf where only weeks ago they finished runner up at the Great American Conference Championship behind Henderson State.
Jacqueline Klemm, currently ranked 61st in the latest Golfstat rankings, took second overall.
This will be the third competition in Hot Springs that Arkansas Tech has competed in 2021-22 season. At the Regional Preview in October the Golden Suns took 2nd out of 19 teams, and once again at the GAC Championships in April, where once again they placed 2nd of 9 teams.
Out of the six top-3 tournament finishes this season the Golden Suns have had the highest placements in Hot Springs.
Beginning Monday morning the Golden Suns will tee-off on the 72-par Hot Springs – Park course. Arkansas Tech has been paired with No. 4 Central Oklahoma and No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney for round one.
