RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team is set to hit the road on Tuesday and play a key in-region game against MIAA-affiliate, Pittsburg State. The game was originally scheduled to be played at a neutral site but was moved to Pitt State's home field where they are in impressive 14-4 this season. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5.

SCOUTING PITTSBURG STATE
The Gorillas enter play 20-11 overall and is coming off a series loss at home against Central Oklahoma in conference action.

Overall, this will be the Gorillas' fifth true mid-week non-conference game. In the previous four, Pitt State is 3-1 with their lone loss coming back in mid-February against one of Tech's GAC rivals, Oklahoma Baptist. That was the second defeat suffered by Pitt State against Oklahoma Baptist in the early part of the season.

It is worth noting that nearly half of the overall losses (5) that the Gorillas have suffered have come at the hands of a GAC opponent. Entering play on Tuesday, Pitt State is 1-5 against the GAC.

Offensively, the Gorillas are hitting .326 as a team (357-for-1,094) with 295 runs scored, 68 doubles, nine triples and 61 home runs. Entering Tuesday, the Gorillas have eight players hitting .300 or better with
Jordan Maxson leading the way at .418 (46-for-110).

In terms of power numbers, the Gorillas have 13 players with a home run and nine of those have multiple homers.
Garrett McGowan leads the team in homers with 13.
Maxson is next with 12 followed by
Kaden Fowler's 11. Three others have four home runs as well. McGowan is pacing the team in RBIs with 53.
Maxson is the other Gorilla hitter with at least 30 RBIs.

On the mound, the Gorillas have a 6.61 team ERA and have struck out 236 batters in 262.2 innings of work.

Seven different pitchers have started a game for the Gorillas. In their last two mid-week games, Pitt State has started
Brett Wiemers and
Ben Des Rosiers.
Des Rosiers got the most-recent mid-week start and earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Des Rosiers 4-1 on the year with a 5.62 ERA and has appeared in 13 games with the one aforementioned start. He has 28 strikeouts in 32.0 innings pitched.
Wiemers is 1-0 with a 7.97 ERA. He has appeared in 10 games and made three starts. He has 13 strikeouts in 20.1 innings.

The Wonder Boys enter play against Pitt State 18-12 overall and are coming off a series win at home against Ouachita in which Tech won the first two games.

This will also be the Wonder Boys' fifth true mid-week non-conference game. In the previous four, Tech is 3-1 with wins over Union, then No. 16-ranked Henderson State and then No. 8-ranked Southern Arkansas.

Offensively, the Wonder Boys enter play against Pitt State hitting .301 as a team (292-for-969) with 197 runs scored, 53 doubles, four triples and 34 home runs. Individually, the Wonder Boys have six batters with at least 60 at-bats hitting .300 or better with

Scott is 3-2 with a 5.71 ERA and has 38 strikeouts in 41.0 innings.

In terms of mid-week starting pitching, the Wonder Boys have used three different starters in
Evan Hafley, Grant Shanan and
John Walsh. Hafley has got the nod the last two times out. In his time on the mound, Hafley has pitched 4.0 innings and has struck out five batters.

In relief, the Wonder Boys have notched five saves with
Ty Van Meter accounting for four of the saves. He has appeared in nine games and currently has 21 strikeouts in 12.2 innings. In addition to starting a mid-week game,
Walsh and
Shahan have been go-to relievers as well for the Wonder Boys.

Walsh has made 11 relief appearances and is 2-0 with a 5.48 ERA. He has 30 strikeouts in 21.1 innings. Shahan has made nine relief appearances and is 0-2 with a save. He as has a 4.74 ERA and has struck out 21 batters in 19.0 innings.
