RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – One final weekend of regular season action awaits and the Arkansas Tech baseball team and they are still playing to secure a berth in the upcoming Great American Conference Tournament.
 
Heading into the weekend series at Harding, the Wonder Boys are currently in sixth place with a 15-14 record in GAC play. They are one game up in the loss column of Oklahoma Baptist and Arkansas-Monticello who are tied for seventh and currently in-line for round out the tournament field. The Wonder Boys are also two games back in the win column of Southeastern Oklahoma, who is currently in fifth place.
 
On the outside looking in is Northwestern Oklahoma at 13-17. The best the Rangers can do is 16-17. They will play their final series against Southwestern Oklahoma, who is already eliminated from contention.
 
The best Oklahoma Baptist and UAM can do is 18-15 and their worst is the flip, 15-18. The Bison take on Southern Nazarene while UAM has No. 1-seed Southern Arkansas.
 
SCOUTING HARDING
The Bisons enter play this weekend 28-17 overall and are 18-12 in the Great American Conference. They have lost their last two games which were played as a non-conference doubleheader on the road at Ouachita earlier this week. Prior to that, the Bisons were coming off a big road series sweep at Southwestern Oklahoma where they out-scored SWOSU 49-18 over the three games.
 
Offensively, the Bisons are hitting .282 as a team (411-for-1,458) with 296 runs scored, 87 doubles, 16 triples and 30 home runs. Entering the weekend, the Bisons have three players hitting .300 or better with Chris Witzke leading the way at .354 (64-for-181).
 
In terms of power numbers, the Bisons have nine players with a home run and six of those have multiple homers. Coulton Doyle leads the team in homers with 11. Cody Smith is next with five. Three others have at least three home runs as well. Doyle is pacing the team in RBIs with 46. Two other Bisons hitters have at least 30 RBIs.
 
On the mound, the Bisons have a 5.01 team ERA and have struck out 283 batters in 368.0 innings of work.
 
This past weekend, the Bisons used a weekend rotation of Carter McCall, Joel Barker and Maddux Long. Those three have combined to make 34 starts and are collectively 17-9 with 151 strikeouts in 204.0 innings of work. Baker paces the starters and is 9-2 with a 3.38 ERA. He has 37 strikeouts in 66.2 innings. McCall is 5-2 with a 3.91 ERA and has 54 Ks in 69.0 innings. Long is 3-5 with a 5.66 ERA and has 60 strikeouts in 68.1 innings.
 
Outside of their latest weekend rotation, 14 different pitchers have been used by Harding. The most appearances made by a reliever is 13 and has been done by both Kyle Lane and Davis Welch. Lane is 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA and has 13 strikeouts in 19.0 innings. Welch is 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA and has 21 strikeouts in 16.0 innings. As a team, Harding has notched seven saves. Lane and Welch each have two saves with the remaining three coming from different pitchers each.
 
TECH TIDBITS
The Wonder Boys enter play against this weekend against Harding at 25-18 overall and 15-14 in the Great American Conference. They are coming off two-straight wins as they won the series finale at Northwestern Oklahoma, 21-5 and won their home finale this past Tuesday against Union, 8-3.
 
Offensively, the Wonder Boys enter play against Harding hitting .299 as a team (409-for-1,370) with 285 runs scored, 72 doubles, seven triples and 53 home runs. Individually, the Wonder Boys have five batters with at least 100 at-bats hitting .300 or better with Yadier Medina leading the team at .406 (54-for-133).
 
In terms of power numbers, the Wonder Boys have 11 players with a home run and ten of those have multiple home runs. Tech is currently led by Shelby Quiggins with 12 homers. Josh Detwiler joins Quiggins in double-digit HRs with 10. Two other Wonder Boys have at least six homers. Evan Hafley leads the team in RBIs with 35. Four other Wonder Boys have driven in at least 25 runs as well.
 
On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 6.16 and have struck out 339 batters in 341.2 innings of work.
 
Patrick Miner, Shane Scott and Will Horton have made up the weekend rotation thus far and are 13-11 combined with 172 strikeouts in 179.2 innings of work. Miner paces the starters with a 7-3 record and a 4.94 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 74.2 innings. Scott is 4-3 with a 5.87 ERA and has 45 strikeouts in 53.2 innings. Horton is currently 2-5 with a 7.54 ERA and has 47 strikeouts in 51.1 innings of work.
 
In relief, the Wonder Boys have notched seven saves with Ty Van Meter accounting for five of the saves. He has appeared in 12 games and currently has 24 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
