RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Still with two weekends left in the regular season, the Arkansas Tech baseball team is preparing to play their second to last conference series of the regular season as they will travel to Alva, Okla. to face Northwestern Oklahoma starting on Friday evening.

As the number of weekends dwindle, the importance of each series is paramount as teams vie to secure one of the eight spots in the upcoming GAC Baseball Tournament in Hot Springs.

Entering the weekend, Tech is in position to make the tournament as they move ahead one spot following last weekends performance to sixth in the standings at 14-12 in GAC play. NWOSU is in the mix themselves at the tenth spot in the standings down only a single loss from SWOSU who has the same number of GAC wins at 11, but one less loss.

SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
The Rangers enter play this weekend 18-25 overall and are 11-16 in the Great American Conference. They have lost their last two games which included a close 4-5 loss on the road at Emporia State and an 11-18 loss at home against Northeastern State University.Â

Offensively, the Rangers are hitting .293 as a team (421-for-1,437) with 298 runs scored, 87 doubles, 8Â triples and 54 home runs. Entering the weekend, the Rangers have six players hitting .300 or better withÂ
Yugo Hamakawa leading the way at .367 (55-for-150).

In terms of power numbers, the Rangers have 14 players with a home run and 12 of those have multiple homers.Â
Blake Hoffman leads the team in homers with 11.Â

Emilio Lovato. Those three have combined to make 18 starts and are collectively 8-6 with 97 strikeouts in 114.1 innings of work. Lovato paces the starters and is 3-4 with a 7.58 ERA. He has 55 strikeouts in 57.0 innings. Collins is 4-1 with a 6.26 ERA and has 34 Ks in 46.0 innings. Schuermann is 1-1 with a 5.56 ERA and has eight strikeouts in 11.1 innings.

Colon is 5-2 with a 4.39 ERA and has 24 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. As a team, Northwestern has notched two saves and both come from Colon.

The Wonder Boys enter play against this weekend against Northwestern Oklahoma at 23-16 overall and 14-12 in the Great American Conference. They are coming off a split mid-week non-conference doubleheader at home against No. 13 Delta State, but have a win in their most-recent conference series action, beating Southwestern Oklahoma 2-0 in the weekend series. The series finale against SWOSU was canceled due to inclement weather.
