RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Despite not having any more weekend series at home the rest of the 2022 regular season, the Arkansas Tech baseball team is not through playing important games at Baswell Field. In fact, the Wonder Boys are set to host No. 13-ranked Delta State in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. The games will be important in-region contests for the former conference rivals.

SCOUTING DELTA STATE
The Statesmen enter play on Tuesday 24-10 overall and have won each of their last four games, all in Gulf South Conference play. This past weekend, the Statemen were only able to get one game in against the University of West Florida, a 17-6 run-rule win in seven innings.
Overall, this will be the Statesmen's sixth true mid-week date. In the previous five, Delta State is 3-2 with all five games coming against Great American Conference opponents. Out of those, the Statesmen have won a pair of games against Arkansas-Monticello, split a pair of games with Southern Arkansas and dropped their lone game with Ouachita.

Offensively, the Statesmen are hitting .302 as a team (343-for-1,136) with 293 runs scored, 70 doubles, five triples and 43 home runs. Entering Tuesday, the Statesmen have five players hitting .300 or better with
Carson Clowers leading the way at .409 (45-for-110).

In terms of power numbers, the Statesmen have 10 players with a home run and seven of those have multiple homers.
Jake Barlow leads the team in homers with 12.
Kirkland Trahan and
Blayke Dendy are next with seven homers each. Two others have at least four home runs as well.
Hayden White is pacing the team in RBIs with 39. Two other Statesmen hitters have at least 30 RBIs.

On the mound, the Statesmen have a 5.62 team ERA and have struck out 252 batters in 281.2 innings of work.

Five different pitchers have started a game for the Statesmen and in their mid-week games, they have used three different starters. Cade Whitley, however, has started the majority of them with three starts to his credit.

Overall, Whitley is 2-1 on the year with a 5.50 ERA. He has appeared in six games and made the three aforementioned starts. He has 23 strikeouts in 18.0 innings of work.

TECH TIDBITS
The Wonder Boys enter play against Delta State 22-15 overall and are riding a three-game winning streak that started with a mid-week victory at UAM last week. Over the past weekend, Tech was only able to get in two of their three games against Southwestern Oklahoma, but both of the games that were played, were victories for the Wonder Boys.

Offensively, the Wonder Boys enter play against Delta State hitting .295 as a team (352-for-1,192) with 239 runs scored, 60 doubles, seven triples and 44 home runs. Individually, the Wonder Boys have four batters with at least 80 at-bats hitting .300 or better with
Yadier Medina leading the team at .395 (47-for-119).

In terms of power numbers, the Wonder Boys have 11 players with a home run and nine of those have multiple home runs. Tech is currently led by
Josh Detweiler and
Shelby Quiggins with nine each. Three other Wonder Boys have at least four homers.
Medina leads the team in RBIs with 30. Five other Wonder Boys have driven in at least 20 runs as well.

On the mound, the Wonder Boys have a team ERA of 5.35 and have struck out 305 batters in 299.2 innings of work.

Patrick Miner,
Shane Scott and
Will Horton have made up the weekend rotation thus far and are 12-9 combined with 161 strikeouts in 166.1 innings of work.
Miner paces the starters with a 7-2 record and a 3.57 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 70.2 innings.
Scott is 3-3 with a 6.02 ERA and has 41 strikeouts in 46.1 innings.
Horton is currently 2-4 with a 5.84 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 49.1 innings of work.

In terms of mid-week starting pitching, the Wonder Boys have used three different starters in
Evan Hafley, Grant Shanan and
John Walsh. Hafley has got the nod the last four times out. In his time on the mound, Hafley is 1-1 and has pitched 8.0 innings with seven strikeouts.

In relief, the Wonder Boys have notched six saves with
Ty Van Meter accounting for four of the saves. He has appeared in 10 games and currently has 21 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.
